3VOD IN ITALY

The 3D phenomenon has taken over one and all countries of Europe and UK and not to mention the likes of US and Japan among others. Their expensive prices notwithstanding, these TV sets have caught the fancy of one and all. The 3D shows, be it a sporting event or a film, an animated feature or even the 3D games for that matter have been much loved by the people who get a chance to see the experience that 3D is.

A Terrestrial 3D TV service is launched by an Italian broadcaster. This service as presented by the leading Italian service provider Mediaset, is in fact the first of its kind all over the world.

The servile goes by the name of 3VOD. It runs on the Motive’s Bestv set top box that the subscribers of the company may thus have easy access to. There are as many as fifty titles available in 3D for the viewing of the people.

The 3D TV was earlier exclusively offered to high-bandwidth pay-tv on satellite or for that matter cable platform. The 3D TV platform for once is still in its early stage and this is its first generation. When it comes to the file size of 3D shows they are again pretty large, in fact double the size of a 2D show.

These 3D shows have two images per frame which sums up to a lot considering the overall file size. Bestvco-founder, Motive Director, Giuseppe Flores d’Arcais, spoke of how this is a first of sorts in the whole world and uniquely bringing the 3D content for the taking to its audience. The “multiplex” feature has the people having access to about seven TV channels U.S.

as far as the 3VOD is concerned. In spite of being named as a VOD (video on demand) feature it isn’t like the normal VODs that are available popularly, say a United States based Netflicks. Here the files are actually placed in a remote server and later on streamed in real-time to the user. The file is then stored on the set top boxes locally.
