It seemed to be the most important national event since the general election. The whole country watched and waited as the media produced minute-by-minute coverage of the hearing of the 2002 HIT-AND-RUN case.
Now coming to a little history. On 28 th sept. 2002, famous Bollywood actor salman khan was arrested for rush and negligent driving after his car ran into a bakery in Mumbai: one person who was sleeping on the pavement outside died on spot and others three injured in the mishap.Charges of culpable homicide laid against him but later dropped. On july 24th,2013 he was again charged but he pleaded not guilty.
On 6th may he was found guilty of all charges in the case. The Bombay session court concluded he was drunk and so he was convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and was given a five year sentence but later it was delayed.
This was the justice but why cant every citizen enjoy the same dispensation of justice that khan did???????????
When saman khan was sentenced to jail, there is a lot more than prison time at stake. Given that he is one of the famous face of Indian entertainment industry,a lot of money- be it from movies in the pipeline , endorsement or other engagement-is on the line. He surely became a coffee-table gossip for some days.
What did people say in his defence?
some die-hard supporters of khan and almost whole entertainment industry kept on saying that it was not salman's fault. They blamed the people sleeping on the pavement or, blamed govt. for not housing people, which resulted in such salman's mishap. "he is a changed man"- this is the key argument that all salman sympathizers put forth was to look at his good side. Look what he has done for society through his charitable work, how mean lives he has saved!! So, why put such a kind hearted man behind jail for some mishap!!??
I mean, oh seriously!!!!!! If this was an ordinary man in place of him then he must have sentenced to death! And here why the same is not happening to rich people too?????Why the case is pending till date? its also the fault of court official and policemen. It is the poor and under privileged who suffer the most. The case of salman proves the fact that here, in India, justice is not in favor of poor.
