The government foisted the minimum export price for onion.

The central government has imposed a minimum export price of USD 850 per tonne to reduce the export of onion which will help in bringing down the domestic prices. The minimum export price is that price below which no exports are allowed. Every year on an average 15 lakh tonnes of onions are exported from India and India produces 17 to 18 million tones of onion per year. MMTC has been ordered to import onions from any country excluding Pakistan so that the domestic supplies can improve and a check on the price rise can be done.
